DINOSAUR DIGS MONTANA  JULY 2004

Learn how to do real fossil exploration and excavation of dinosaur specimens in the fossil-rich Hell Creek Formation of eastern Montana.

Follow the footprints of such famous dinosaur paleontologists as Marsh, Cope, Osborn, Williston, Sternberg, and Barnum Brown, the discoverer of T-Rex.

WHEN?  July 5-10th & July 12-17th AD 2004

Dino Dig Camps Starts on Monday July 5th or 12th . Choose which week you would like to attend and advise us on the application form at end.

WHERE?  Glendive, Montana

The dig is located on 37 acres of the fossil-rich Hell Creek next to Glendive, Montana. This property is owned by FACT Inc. Montana.

On this new site we have excavated fossil crocodile teeth, pine cones, leaves, raptor bones, and other singular Dinosaur leg bones, turtle bones and shells plus fish and shark remains. The many specimens buried with a host of aquatic animals, indicate rapid catastrophic flood burial.

In the area of our dig site other animals have been found, such as: T-Rex, Caenagnathus, Edmontosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Maiasaurus, other Hadrosaurs, Triceratops, Torosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Thescelosaurus, Champsosaurs, Turtles,  Alligator Gar, and Crocodiles have been excavated.

HOW?

Teams of 5 or 6 will be assigned a site and led by one of our experienced dig supervisors.  The site will be set-up with established survey points for proper grid work and the dig supervisor will maintain an on-going official sketch of the site in 1m (3’3”) squares x 10cm (4”) in depth.

The proper techniques of digging, sketching/recording, transporting overburden, screening, stabilizing, plastering, removing and identifying specimens will be taught to each team member. Duties will be rotated approximately every 30 minutes throughout the day to allow each team member a complete paleontological field experience.
