CROSBY COUNTY AETOSAUR

In June 2000 Joe Taylor lead a group to one of his excavation sites in Crosby County, Texas just south east of Crosbyton. These are the famous Triassic group red beds of West Texas

Among those present were a video team from Lubbock, Texas. Monica Hightower and Joe Martin (right) specialize in educational videos and found Taylor’s excavation techniques excellent for their film.

Taylor has spent many years practicing and refining his excavation techniques. Here he describes his technique of plastering a flat base onto the field jacket so that when the jacket is turned over the bones are protected from damage.

Taylor and crew uncovered an area about four feet long and two and one half feet wide which appeared to be a section from the middle of one of these strange armored crocodilians. The colored section indicates what it appeared to be.

Video cameraman Joe Martin tapes Taylor discussing how to make a field jacket for their educational video.
