A Mammoth Skull Restoration by Museum Director Joe Taylor

I have restored several mammoth skulls like this one
from Alaska, which came to me busted all to smithereens. |
After gluing the pieces together I attached a fiberglass cast of the missing
tusk sockets. |
Next the major pieces were
cemented together by two part plastic foam. |
After many hours, my efforts were rewarded by the beauty of this impressive beast from Gods creation. |
Alaskan Bison Skull Restoration for the Rothschild Collection

This large, beautiful Bison priscus skull from Alaska came to me smashed by a bulldozer and missing its left horn. [upper left] After gluing the skull together and sculpting the missing parts I molded the right horn which I cast in plastic and reworked it to use it
for the left horn. |
The left horn was attached to a rod anchored in the skull and joined with a hard plastic foam which was then sculpted to resemble the bone. There is a great mystery surrounding the millions of bison and mammoths which were buried quickly all over the vast recesses of Alaska and Siberia. |
