Mysterious Case of the Mastodon Brain Case
Getting your head together
Many mammoth and mastodon skull repair jobs do not include saving the brain case or preserving the interior nasal passageways. In the case of our current big mastodon, we saved the brain cavity so that one can actually look inside. Since this skull was crushed by a steam engine and draft horses, the thin bones of the brain and nasal cavities were destroyed. But we took pains to save what was left. The walls of the brain case are only 1/8 inch thick at the sides of the skull, adding to the challenge of reconstruction.
When we were finally able to place a large section of left tusk socket in original position, this allowed us to set a cast (replica) of another similar-sized mastodon skull in place onto the real bone of the complete mastodon skull palette. In order to the sections of real bone in their proper place, a matching section of the cast is cut away and replaced with the real bone. Ultimately, most of the cast will be replaced with original bone.

Joe Taylor says that the 2015 Giants conference in Lubbock was very interesting to say the least. There was more information supporting the Biblical account of giants on the earth, plus some thought-provoking new ideas such as a new theory on the “flat earth”, questions about the temperature of moonlight, and magnetic ley lines of the earth. It’s interesting to note that the size of a mastodon brain is about the same size of a human skull. As Joe Taylor pointed out in his talk, this fact helps to know if ancient reports are describing a mastodon skull or a giant human, because many of these reports include a measured volume of the skull. Mastodon brain cases can only hold about 1 gallon while a giant human skull of the same size could hold much more.

This recent picture is a hoax, not the real thing. Read more about it in this article
